Program Note
I have been studying proportions of lines of Grigorian' Unbenannt-2 and I created a corresponding system in order to translate triangularvforms in to musical language using two parameters: time and interval. I tried to express both the abstractness of the painting (such an abstractionist title!) and the dramatic effect it had on me. The piece is written for an occasion of International Art & Music Collaboration festival Hearing Art Seeing Sound (Hassfest) in Yerevan, Armenia. Unbenannt-2 was premiered the 7th of July 2016 at the opening of an exposition of Armenian visual artists, by musicians of Ensemble X and Y. Later the audio recording of the composition accompanied the painting in question at Dalan Art Gallery.
Unbenannt-2 was 1st performed by the Ensemble X.Y. during interdisciplinary Hassfest international Art & Music festival in Yerevan, Armenia. Check the video combining music and Sam Grigorian’s art on Youtube.
