Residentuu:r

The “Residentuu:r” session with Justina Repečkaitė took place on the 3rd of May at Elutuba Lava Taga in the light Ensemble U: concert (link for the livestream) where Justina Repečkaitė‘s Incantare for flute and tape was featured at the Natural History Museum of Tartu on May 4th, 2024 during the Baltic and Estonian Music Days festival.

During the event, Justina presented the inspiration behind Incantare and its creation process. Together with Tarmo Johannes, who played the excerpts of the piece, they explained the differences between Incantare’s versions for concert flute and bass flute. Audience was free to ask any questions. Repečkaitė also discussed the crucial significance of incorporating voice while playing wind instruments in: Toro (2015) for euphonium and tape, Encierro (2019) for saxhorn quartet, Datura (2021) for trombone solo and La muë (2024) for serpent, children’s choir and electronics. The latter was detailed with excerpts showcasing the serpent techniques utilized by Patrick Wibart in the piece, including singing and didgeridoo. Justina also demonstrated the Max/MSP patch co-created with the computer music designer João Svidzinski for "La muë."

Residentuu:r are public laboratories and a collaborative effort between composers who are either crafting new pieces for Ensemble U: in 2024 or whose existing works will be showcased this year. The discussions revolve around themes pertinent to the compositions and their broader context, with experimentation of diverse performance techniques and approaches.
